About Us

How we got started...

Founded in a room of 50,000 Berkshire Shareholders by a non-shareholder in 2015, Ngum Suh, began her mission to challenge herself and other African-American women to take a vested interest in their financial well-being and advancement.

After spending a Saturday in what she deemed an educational bootcamp, The Plutocrats Founder, decided to empower herself to make better financial decisions, not just with stock investments, but an overall investment in her financial status. Having noticed very few African-American women in BRK15 attendance, two questions arose; How could there be more and what else were African-American women missing in the race for economic prestige?

Addressing the first question, in a long-winded thank you note to Berkshire Hathaway’s Chairman and CEO, Mr. Buffett and his amazing right hand (and probably left too) Mrs. Debbie Bosanek, Ngum thanked the Berkshire team for their gracious accommodations at the 50th Annual Shareholder’s meeting and continued with the request to attend the following year accompanied by more friends that “looked like her”. So gracious, Mr. Buffett and the Berkshire team accepted and that’s when the fun began.

After selecting the women who would attend, the year was filled with financial research, excitement, frustration, and goal setting. While googling synonyms for 'wealthy women' in search of a name for the group, Ngum stumbled upon the term Plutocrat and knew it would be a perfectly unassuming yet powerful designation to adopt. The group now had it's name! By the following Spring, plans were made and 5 women attended the 51st annual shareholder’s meeting in full force! To make the most of the visit to

Omaha, Ngum setup Friday Field Trips which included visits to Omaha based companies to increase their knowledge about the basics of investments and entrepreneurship.

On the shareholder’s day, The Plutocrats were awarded seating in the reserved section for C-Class employees of the Berkshire owned companies, these 5 women sat in the front row, notebooks open, eyes peeled, and ears perked for Warren and Charlie’s magic potion recipe for success! Guess what, they got it! Just like everyone else in the room, they heard the genius of simplicity and truth.

Since that amazing weekend with Warren, The Plutocrats have grown from 5 women to over 220 strong, ages ranging from 17 to 68 years young! With monthly financial focuses, the group discusses their strengths, successes, and even struggles in each area. Through these conversations, women are able to think out loud in a safe space, share articles, tips and tricks to making better decisions. The group has done city meet-ups, attended conferences and expansion for 2017 will be one for the books!

From just one little ole party crashing woman to over 250 women changing the way they think about money! The Plutocrats now include African American women whose power derive from their wealth!
